Brown Cashmere Sweaters for Men
The widest colour family in the range — four tones from a greyed mid-brown down to a pale oat — and the one where the workshop's own swatch names are least reliable. Sand exists on the crew neck only. One of the four is filed internally as a grey and is not a grey at all. Both facts are on this page rather than buried in a variant dropdown.

Which brown is on which sweater
This table is the reason the page exists. Sand is a dash on the V-neck column, and it will stay a dash until the workshop makes it.

Two cells say "no photograph yet". Sandstone and Oat are both made on the V-neck and neither has ever been shot on that neckline, so those tiles show a flat swatch. Substituting the crew neck photograph would sell you a garment you have not seen.

Seven combinations of colourway and neckline, five of them photographed from their own dye lot. The two that are not are labelled.
Four browns that are not the same brown
Brown is where a colour name stops being useful. All four of these would be called "tan" or "camel" by a retailer, and they behave differently:
- Taupe Brown #a68276 — the darkest and the greyest. This is the one that works as a neutral, and the only brown here you could wear to an office without thinking about it.
- Sandstone #d7ba98 — a sandy tan with yellow in it. The parent codes it Greenish-brown-134d, which is simply wrong: green sits at 186 against red 215 and blue 152, so it reads warm, not olive.
- Sand #e8ba91 — lighter and pinker than Sandstone. Crew neck only.
- Oat #d0b7ac — the palest, barely a brown at all, and the one the parent files under Light-grey-32ll. Red 208, green 183, blue 172: that is a warm taupe. It is on this page and not on the Grey Cashmere Sweaters for Men page because the hex decides, not the filename.
How to wear it
Brown is the anti-black. It softens a face rather than sharpening it, and it is the reason a brown sweater reads relaxed where the identical garment in black reads formal.
- Taupe Brown crew under a navy blazer. The best pairing on this page. Navy and brown is the modern replacement for navy and grey and it looks considered rather than default.
- Sand or Sandstone with raw indigo denim. Pale tan against dark blue is the highest-contrast combination here without using a bright colour anywhere.
- Oat over a white shirt, with grey flannel. Very quiet, and the one version of this palette that works in a suit-adjacent setting.
- Not with black tailoring. These are mid to pale browns. Against black they look like a colour that did not commit.

Who it suits
Warm and olive complexions get the most from brown, and dark or auburn hair gives the pale shades something to sit against. The honest warning is for pale, low-contrast colouring: Sand and Oat are close enough to fair skin that a crew neck in either can make the whole upper half of you read as one tone. Take Taupe Brown instead, or take the V-neck so a shirt collar breaks the block.
Why the natural shades vary more
Chyangra fleece comes off the goat in cream, grey and brown. Two of these four colourways carry the workshop's -natural suffix rather than -dye — Taupe Brown and Sand — which we read as fleece colour rather than dye colour.
If that reading is right, it has a practical consequence: you cannot standardise a goat. A dyed lot can be matched to a recipe; a natural lot is whatever that season's combing produced. Expect more visible variation between one Sand sweater and the next than between one Sandstone and the next. That is a feature of undyed fibre, not a defect, but it is the sort of thing you should be told before you order rather than after.

Questions about the browns
Which browns are on the V-neck?
Taupe Brown, Sandstone and Oat. Sand is not — #e8ba91 exists on the crew neck only. The parent has an orphaned light-brown V-neck photograph sitting in its media library from a colourway it never sold, so if you find that image elsewhere, it is not something you can order.
What is the difference between Sand and Sandstone?
Sand #e8ba91 is lighter and warmer — more red against its green, which is what makes it read slightly pink. Sandstone #d7ba98 is a shade deeper and a touch cooler; the extra blue in it is what stops it going orange. Side by side you would call them different colours; in a photograph on a screen you probably would not. Sandstone is on both necklines, Sand only on the crew.
Does brown go with black?
Not at these values. Brown against black works when the brown is very dark — a chocolate or a bitter — and all four of ours are mid to pale. Wear them with navy, grey or denim, and keep the black for the shoes if at all.
Are these dyed or natural fleece colours?
The parent's swatch codes end in either -dye or -natural. Taupe Brown and Sand carry -natural; Sandstone and Oat carry -dye. We read that as undyed fleece against a dyed lot, which would explain why the two natural shades vary more between batches — but we have asked the workshop to confirm it rather than publish an inference as a fact.
Do all four colourways have photographs?
No. All four are photographed on the crew neck. On the V-neck only Taupe Brown is, so Sandstone and Oat show a flat swatch and say so. We will not put a crew neck photograph on a V-neck listing to fill the gap.
